The borough, not the township. Roof work along Butler Avenue and the streets built out behind it, a mile from Doylestown.
There is a New Britain Borough and a New Britain Township, and they are separate municipalities. The borough is the smaller of the two, about a square mile along Butler Avenue between Chalfont and Doylestown, with its own stop on the Lansdale/Doylestown Line. Its oldest houses date to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries around the village core, and most of the rest filled in during the 1960s. Central Bucks schools serve it.
That split matters when you pull a permit, because the borough runs its own review. We confirm the parcel first, then file with New Britain Borough under the PA Uniform Construction Code. On the older houses we plan for steep pitches and reworked flashing; on the 1960s stock we expect decking repair and ventilation that was never finished properly.

Two very different kinds of roof sit within a few blocks of each other, and the right approach on one street is the wrong approach on the next.
Village-core houses run steep, which changes staging, safety setup and how valleys get built.
Many 1960s attics have exhaust at the ridge and no intake at the soffit.
Mature trees near Neshaminy Creek fill valleys and gutters with debris every autumn.
New Britain Borough issues its own roof permits, separate from New Britain Township.
Same office, same crews, a short drive away.
They are two municipalities sharing a name, and the mailing address does not settle it. New Britain Borough is the compact area along Butler Avenue, while New Britain Township wraps around a much larger area to the west. Permits go to whichever one your parcel sits in, so we verify it before filing.
Almost always an intake problem. A ridge vent cannot pull air if the soffits are blocked or were never vented, so the attic stagnates: heat in July, condensation in January. Opening intake at the eaves and balancing it against ridge exhaust is part of a proper replacement, not an add-on.
Yes. Older houses take longer because the flashing details were built by hand and have been altered since, so we expect to rebuild chimney counterflashing, reset step flashing at additions and check the deck for old repairs. Steep pitches also mean more staging, which we account for up front.
On a 1960s house, often a few sheets rather than the whole deck, concentrated around chimneys, valleys and the eaves. We cannot know until the old roof is off. Our practice is to show you what we find, price it by the sheet, and get your approval before we cover it up.
