Pottstown’s Chester County side, where the village housing in Kenilworth and Cedarville is already on its second or third roof.
North Coventry runs along the Schuylkill River across from Pottstown, crossed by Route 422 and Route 100, with Owen J. Roberts covering the schools. Kenilworth, Cedarville, Shenkel and Pottstown Landing are older village clusters of twins, porch fronts and steep gables. Later subdivisions like Coventry Pointe and Cedar Mill sit around them. Most of the village houses have been re-roofed at least twice.
Layered roofs are what we find most often here. We tear off to the deck so we can see what previous crews covered up, replace rotted sheathing, and rebuild step flashing at the porch and chimney instead of caulking over it. The permit for that work is issued by North Coventry Township under the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code.

Each reroof leaves something behind, a nailed-over vent, a short piece of flashing, a soft deck board, and the next crew inherits all of it at once.
Two or three shingle layers hide deck rot and add weight the framing never planned for.
Shallow porch and bay roofs need membrane, not shingle, to shed water reliably.
Caulk-only chimney repairs left by past reroofs are the most common leak we find.
North Coventry Township issues roof permits under the state construction code.

We do not recommend it and usually will not. Going over the top hides deck rot, leaves flashing details too shallow to work, and stacks weight on framing that is already carrying two layers on a lot of these houses. Tear off costs more in disposal and far less in callbacks.
With North Coventry Township. Pottstown is a separate borough in Montgomery County and has no authority over township properties, even though your address and your shopping are both Pottstown. North Coventry administers the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code for roof work here, and we submit the application.
Porch and bay roofs on these older houses are often too shallow for shingle to work. Water moves slowly on a low pitch and backs up at the wall, which is exactly where shingle laps fail. A self-adhered membrane, or standing seam metal if you want the look, tied properly into the wall is the real fix.
You usually cannot tell from the ground, and soft spots underfoot are a late sign. From inside the attic, look for daylight at the sheathing seams, dark staining, and nail tips that have backed out. We open the roof during tear off and show you what is there before anything gets covered.
