Stone houses and old trees around the college campus, inside Haverford Township. Roof replacement built for constant shade.
The Haverford College place name covers the campus and the streets around it, inside Haverford Township. The college grounds are a registered arboretum, and the canopy does not stop at the property line. Houses nearby are mostly stone and stucco from the early twentieth century, set back on deep lots with mature oaks and beeches over them. The Paoli line station is a short walk from most of it.
Shade changes the job. We clear valleys and gutter lines, specify algae-resistant shingle where it makes sense, and check ventilation because a roof that stays wet longer needs airflow more, not less. Permits for roofing here are issued by Haverford Township under the PA Uniform Construction Code.

Constant shade, leaf load in the valleys and sap from overhanging limbs keep moisture on the shingle, which shortens the life of an otherwise sound roof.
Valleys and gutter lines cleared where leaf load holds water against shingle.
Algae-resistant shingle and ventilation used together on permanently shaded slopes.

With Haverford Township. The Haverford College name is a postal and census designation, not a municipality, so every roofing permit, inspection and code question goes through Haverford Township under the PA Uniform Construction Code. We pull the permit and schedule inspection as part of the work.
Usually tree cover. A slope under heavy canopy stays damp, collects leaf litter in the valleys and grows algae, and all three shorten shingle life. The same roof in full sun can look ten years younger. Trimming back limbs and keeping valleys clear makes a real difference.
We would not lead with that. Trimming limbs back off the roof plane, clearing the valleys and gutters each autumn, and getting the ventilation right handles most of it. Take a tree down if it is dropping limbs on the house, not because of moss.
That junction is where we would look first. Stucco over stone needs counter flashing cut into the wall, and on older houses it was often finished with sealant that has since failed. Water then travels behind the stucco and shows up well away from the actual entry point.
