Local Roofing In Ridley

River wind and post-war rooflines

Ridley Township runs from the Morton line down to the Delaware, and Woodlyn, Folsom, Holmes, Crum Lynne, Milmont Park and Leedom Estates were mostly built between the late 1920s and the 1960s. Twins, capes and brick rows sit on flat open ground with little mature canopy near the river, so wind comes across without much to slow it down.
Wind is what we plan for here. Starter course sealed at the rakes and eaves, six-nail fastening on the field, and hip and ridge capped with a product rated for it, because a lifted course on a windward slope becomes a leak in the next storm. Permits are issued by Ridley Township under the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code.

Roofing In Ridley

Wind off the Delaware finds the loose course first.

Open ground near the river gives wind a clean run at rakes, ridges and the first course above the gutter, which is where most storm damage starts.

Storm damage in Ridley?
24/7 emergency leak and tarp response.

Rake and edge

Perimeter courses need sealing and closer fastening, because that is where uplift begins.

Ridge and hip

Cap shingles blow off first when they are face-nailed or under-fastened at the peak.

Ice at the gutters

Shallow post-war overhangs ice up fast and hold water against the first course.

Ridley FAQ

Common questions

A nor'easter took shingles off my roof. Is that a repair or a replacement?

A nor'easter took shingles off my roof. Is that a repair or a replacement?

It depends where and how many. A lost patch on one slope with sound decking underneath is a repair. Widespread lifting, creased shingles across the field, or a roof already at the end of its service life is a replacement. We document what we find either way.

Both are Ridley Township, so the permit comes from Ridley Township’s code office under the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code. The postal name on your mail does not change that. We pull the permit, post it, and meet the township inspector when the work is done.

Warm air escaping into the attic melts snow on the field while the overhang stays at outside temperature. The runoff refreezes at the edge and dams. Ice-and-water membrane along the eaves stops the leak, and better attic ventilation and insulation reduce the melting in the first place.

Looking fine from the ground is not much of a test. We check the mat for brittleness, the fastening at the perimeter, the condition of the flashing, and whether granule loss has started on the south slope. If it has a few good years left we will tell you that.
