A railroad suburb of deep eaves, dormers and slate. Roof replacement for St. Davids homes, permitted through Radnor Township.
St. Davids grew up along the Paoli line, and the houses show it. Long driveways, stone and shingle fronts, third-floor windows cut into the roof plane, porches with their own small roofs running off the main slope. Eastern University sits at the center of it. Most of the residential stock here predates the war, and a good share of it went up when slate and cedar were still standard.
We start on the roof rather than in the driveway. Original slate often has life left in it, and where replacement is the right answer we carry the pitch, the flashing and the dormer returns the house was built with. St. Davids is not a municipality, so permits go through Radnor Township under the PA Uniform Construction Code.
The full Maze Roofing range, residential and commercial, from the local team.

Storm damage, active leaks and fallen trees, with 24/7 phone response.
Slate, cedar and soldered metal all age differently, and the places they meet stone, stucco and dormer cheeks are where water usually gets its first opening.
Existing slate checked for salvage before anyone prices a full tear-off.
Step and counter flashing rebuilt where dormer cheeks meet the main slope.
Ice-and-water underlayment and attic airflow reviewed together on long steep runs.

Radnor Township does. St. Davids is a postal and census name rather than a municipality, so the application, the inspections and the code enforcement all sit with Radnor Township under the PA Uniform Construction Code. We handle the permit as part of the job.
Warm air leaking into the attic melts snow on the upper slope, the water runs down and freezes at the cold eave, and the resulting ridge backs water under the shingles. Ventilation, insulation and ice-and-water underlayment at the eaves fix the cause. A larger gutter does not.
Often it is worth repairing. Slate itself lasts a long time; the nails, the underlayment and the flashing are usually what fail first. We get on the roof, look at fastening and valleys, and tell you which of the two you are actually facing.
It can, if the profile is heavy enough and the details are kept. We use a thicker slate-look shingle, keep copper valley and dormer work where it can be reused, and hold the original ridge and eave lines. Sightlines matter more to the result than shingle color does.
