The county seat, with dense brick rowhomes, narrow streets, and flat rear sections that need membrane work more than they need shingles.
Norristown is the county seat, and the oldest dense housing in Montgomery County sits here. The Central Norristown Historic District alone covers roughly 245 acres and about 1,900 buildings, Greek Revival through Victorian, and the blocks running out from DeKalb and Main are brick rowhomes and twins from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Most have a pitched front roof and a flat or near-flat section over the rear.
That split is the whole job here. We shingle or slate the front slope, run EPDM or TPO across the rear, and flash the party wall and the transition between them so water cannot get behind either. Tight streets mean careful staging and real cleanup. Permits go through Norristown’s buildings and code enforcement department, and we close them out.

A Norristown rowhome usually has a pitched front and a flat back, and the leak is almost always at the seam between them or along the party wall.
EPDM or TPO over the back of the house, with the slope corrected where it ponds.
The shared wall is the leak nobody sees until it shows up on a ceiling inside.
We stage on narrow blocks without blocking your neighbors, and we clean up the nails.
The municipality issues roof permits and inspects the work, and we handle the filing.

Yes, and it comes from Norristown itself, not Montgomery County. The municipality’s buildings and code enforcement department issues roof permits under the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code and inspects the work. We file it, schedule the inspection and close the file. On a rowhome we also make sure the scope covers the party wall rather than stopping at it.
Often not. On most Norristown rows the flat rear section and the pitched front are effectively two roofs with two lifespans, so replacing the membrane on the back while the front still has years left is a legitimate answer. What we will not do is patch a membrane that has already failed at the seams and call it fixed.
A good deal of central Norristown falls inside the Central Norristown Historic District, which is a National Register listing. National Register status by itself does not control what you put on your roof; local ordinance does, so the answer comes from the municipality. We ask before quoting, and if there is a review step we build the time in.
Say so, and we will work the problem instead of the sale. A targeted repair at a flashing, a valley or a membrane seam often buys real years for a fraction of a replacement, and we will tell you how many we think it buys. No scare tactics and no upselling, an honest read on your roof.
