A small township on the creek that named it, with Rahns and Graterford at the crossroads and Pennypacker Mills near the center.
Perkiomen Township was cut out of Skippack in 1886 along the creek, and it is still defined by that water. Route 29 follows Gravel Pike north and south, Route 113 crosses at the south end by Bridge Road, and Rahns and Graterford sit at those intersections. Pennypacker Mills, the county-owned estate, is here. Schwenksville is a separate borough within the township’s bounds.
A creek valley holds humidity. North slopes stay green longer, gutters carry more debris, and the low ground near the Perkiomen works through freeze and thaw harder than the ridges do. We spec underlayment and ventilation with that in mind. The roofing permit for a Perkiomen Township address comes from Perkiomen Township under the PA Uniform Construction Code.

Moisture that does not dry off feeds algae and moss, holds debris in the valleys, and gives freeze-thaw more water to work with at the eaves.
Damp shaded planes streak and grow moss faster than sunlit ones do.
Creek-side trees fill gutters, which backs water onto the eave.
Low ground near the creek cycles harder and needs ice-and-water protection.
Perkiomen Township issues the permit; Schwenksville borough handles its own.

Perkiomen Township, if your parcel is in the township, under the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code. Schwenksville is a separate borough with its own office, and a Collegeville mailing address does not put you in Collegeville borough. We confirm which municipality the parcel sits in before filing anything.
Moss is, more than algae. Moss holds water against the shingle and lifts the edges as it grows under them, and in this creek valley the shaded slopes stay wet long enough for it to take hold. It can be treated and kept off, but a slope that grows it repeatedly will not last as long.
Indirectly. The colder and damper the site, the more freeze-thaw cycles the roof edge sees in a winter, and each one works on nail holes and flashing laps a little more. Ice-and-water underlayment along the eaves and in the valleys is the practical answer on a low-lying lot.
Twice a year is the floor on a wooded creek lot, and some houses need three. Full gutters back water onto the eave and under the first courses of shingle, which is the slow way to rot a roof edge. It is also the cheapest maintenance there is, and better done before winter than after.
