Skippack Village sits at the center of a township of large lots, wooded creek edges and newer homes along the Perkiomen.
Skippack Pike carries Route 73 straight through the village, past storefronts with low-slope porch roofs and awnings. Away from that strip the township is residential and comfortable: large lots, high owner occupancy, and homes built mostly after 1980. Evansburg State Park and the Perkiomen Creek keep a good share of the township under tree cover, and Creamery, Lucon and Providence Square still read as separate places.
Shade is the practical issue. We clear debris from valleys, treat algae streaking, and check north-facing slopes where moss holds moisture against the shingle. On the commercial buildings in the village, low-slope sections get EPDM or TPO rather than shingle. Roofing permits in Skippack are issued by Skippack Township under the PA Uniform Construction Code.

Shingle, tile, metal and flat roofing for homes and townhomes across the area.
Shingle, tile, metal, flat and TPO. Managed from tear-off to cleanup.
Flat, TPO and metal systems, with maintenance programs that protect the asset.
Storm damage, active leaks and fallen trees, with 24/7 phone response.
Tree cover slows drying after rain and snow, and north slopes hold moss, algae and needle debris that shorten a shingle’s working life.
North slopes under trees stay damp and streak first on this stock.
Needles and leaves dam valleys, then push water sideways under the shingle.
Village storefronts and rear additions need membrane, not shingle, on flat runs.
Roof permits go through Skippack Township, the municipality, not Montgomery County.

They shorten the life of the shaded slopes, yes. Shade keeps the deck and the shingle damp after every rain, and damp shingle grows algae and moss that lift the granule layer. Keeping limbs back off the roof and valleys clear buys you years. Sunny slopes usually outlast shaded ones by a noticeable margin.
Skippack Township issues it, under the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code. Montgomery County has no role in residential roofing permits in Pennsylvania. We file the application, post it, and coordinate any inspection the township wants, so you are not the one making phone calls on a workday.
Algae. It feeds on the limestone filler in asphalt shingles and shows up worst on north and shaded slopes, which describes a lot of lots here. It is cosmetic at first and structural later, once granules start going with it. Newer shingles with copper-bearing granules resist it far better.
Not shingle. Below roughly a 2:12 pitch, shingles depend on water leaving faster than it can find a lap, and it does not. A single-ply membrane such as EPDM or TPO, or standing-seam metal, is the right system for a porch or rear addition at that pitch.
