Thousands of preserved farmland acres, Crosswicks village from the 1670s, and Old York Village built since 2000. Two roofing worlds, one township.
Chesterfield Township made a choice most places did not. Several thousand acres of farmland here are permanently preserved, and new growth was steered into a single receiving area: Old York Village, a neo-traditional community begun in the early 2000s. Outside it, the township is farms, farmhouses on large lots, and the old villages of Crosswicks, Davisville and Extonville, with Crosswicks dating to the 1670s.
That splits the work cleanly. Farmhouses need repair-first thinking, metal on shallow porch and bay roofs, and an honest look at decking under several old layers. Old York Village homes are approaching twenty years and need first-replacement attention to the details. Permits for both go through the Chesterfield Township construction office under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code.

Exposed farm fields give wind a clean run at a roof, and the rake edges and ridge caps are usually the first things to let go.

Old York Village roofs are at the age when valleys and pipe boots need checking.

Crosswicks · Old York Village · Davisville · Extonville
No. Crosswicks is an unincorporated village within Chesterfield Township, so the township construction office issues the permit and performs the inspection under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code. Davisville, Extonville and Old York Village are all handled by the same office.
Open farmland gives wind an unobstructed run, and ridge and rake are where it gets under the roof. The fix is fastening and sealing at the perimeter: a sealed starter course, hand-nailed or properly gunned ridge caps, and drip edge secured at the correct spacing rather than the minimum.
We expect to find plank sheathing, some of it cupped or rotted near the eaves and around the chimney. Three layers also means the original flashing is buried and long finished. Budget for sheathing replacement and new metal at every penetration; that is where the money on these houses actually goes.
For the field shingles, probably. For the details, no. At that age the pipe boots have usually cracked, the valley metal is thinning and the step flashing at any bump-out deserves a look. An inspection separates a targeted repair from a replacement instead of guessing between them.
