Low, wet ground under heavy tree cover in Winslow Township. Roof replacement for slopes that never really dry out.
Cedar Brook is an unincorporated community in the Pinelands side of Winslow Township, named for the water that runs through it. The Winslow Community Church opened here in 1972 at the old Cedar Brook Hunting and Fishing Club, which tells you something about how the place developed: slowly, around water and woods, on ground that holds moisture. Tree cover closes over most of the lots.
Damp and shade change what a roof needs. We look for moss rooted between the courses and sheathing that has lost its grip, and we check the attic for frost from poor airflow. Then algae-resistant shingle, open valleys and balanced ventilation. Cedar Brook addresses are permitted and inspected by the Winslow Township construction office under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code.

Cedar swamp and tree cover hold humidity against the north slopes long after a rain, and that is where the moss and the soft decking turn up.
Moss roots between the courses and lifts the shingle edge as it grows.
Decking that never dries out gradually loses its grip on the fasteners.
Poor airflow over damp ground puts frost on the underside of the deck.

Worse than it looks: moss holds water against the shingle and its roots work into the seams, lifting edges until wind can get under them. Scraping or pressure washing removes granules along with the moss, so a low-pressure treatment is safer while the roof still has life. Once the edges have lifted, it is replacement territory.
The Winslow Township construction office, under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code. Cedar Brook is an unincorporated community rather than a borough, so there is no separate local authority, and Camden County does not permit roofing work. We handle the filing and the final inspection as part of the job.
Maybe not. On damp ground with poor ventilation, moist air condenses on the cold nails and sheathing and does much the same damage as a leak, just slower and everywhere at once. We measure the intake and exhaust against the attic area and fix the airflow during the replacement, because new shingle over that condition does not last.
Not the woods, but the limbs over the roof plane are worth taking back. Anything resting on shingle wears it, and overhanging branches drop the debris that fills valleys and holds moisture. A few feet of clearance and less direct shade on the north slope makes a measurable difference to how fast the roof dries.
