A borough that began as an 1871 Methodist camp meeting. Small, steep, tightly spaced cottages on twelve roads radiating from the Grove.
Pitman began in 1871 as a Methodist camp meeting. Twelve roads run out from the center like spokes on a wheel, and the tents along them were gradually replaced by cottages, around four hundred of them by the 1880s. Pitman Grove went on the National Register in 1977. Those cottages are small, tightly spaced, steep-roofed and much altered, with porches and rear additions layered on across a century and a half.
Tight spacing changes how the work gets done. Maze Roofing plans access and staging before the tear-off, keeps debris controlled between buildings, and pays close attention to the sidewall and valley details where an addition meets the original cottage. The Borough of Pitman construction office issues the roofing permit under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code.

When two roofs are a few feet apart, access, debris control and the detail where one addition meets another decide how the job goes.
Staging and debris control get planned before anything comes off the roof.
Porches and rear wings added later meet the original roof at awkward angles.
Short steep planes shed water well but leave almost no margin on flashing.
The Borough of Pitman construction office issues the roof permit under state uniform code.
Same office, same crews, a short drive away.
National Register listing on its own does not control what a private owner puts on a house; local rules are what would. Because that varies, Maze Roofing checks with the Borough of Pitman for your specific address before ordering material rather than assuming either way. The construction permit comes from the borough regardless.
The Borough of Pitman construction office, under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code. Pitman is its own municipality, so the county is not involved. We file the permit as part of the job and set up the inspection with the borough once the new roof is finished.
On a small steep roof there is very little run for water to spread out, so it concentrates at every junction. Where a later porch or wing meets the original cottage, the step flashing and valley metal are doing nearly all the work. That is where these houses leak, almost every time.
With a plan made before the trucks arrive. We work out where the dumpster sits, how debris comes down, and which side gets staged, and we protect the neighboring walls and plantings. It takes more setup than a suburban lot, which is simply part of working in the Grove.
