The Pennsylvania suburbs are not one housing stock. The Main Line runs to stone colonials and twins with slate origins, steep pitches, dormers and copper valleys. The boroughs, Media, West Chester, Doylestown, Phoenixville, hold dense pre-war rowhomes and twins. Push west and north and it turns into stone farmhouse country and large-lot development from the 1980s onward, out through Chester County and upper Bucks.
Permits here are municipal, never county. Your township or borough codes office issues them under the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code, and a borough is often a separate authority from the township wrapped around it. We work out which one owns your address, pull the permit and close it out.

Architectural asphalt shingle is the default and it is the right answer on most homes in this market. Slate, synthetic slate and cedar come up on older Main Line and borough houses. Standing-seam metal suits porch roofs, bays and additions, and low-slope porch or addition sections usually want an EPDM or TPO membrane rather than shingle.
Around here the claims that go through are wind and hail, not the hurricane damage our Florida offices deal with. We inspect, photograph what we find and tell you plainly whether it reads as storm damage or as age and wear. If it is age, a claim wastes your time and we will say so.
