Delaware County fits forty-nine municipalities into a little more than 184 square miles, and the roofs change every few miles. Upper Darby and Lansdowne hold dense stone twins and rowhomes from the 1920s. Haverford and Springfield are brick and stone from the 1930s through the 1950s. Media’s blocks near the courthouse go back to the 1800s, and Newtown Square and Edgmont run to larger lots and newer builds.

Much of the county went up before 1960, which means steep pitches, tight valleys, low-slope rear additions and attics that were never vented for freeze-thaw winters.

Pennsylvania permits residential roofing at the municipal level under the Uniform Construction Code, so Haverford Township, Springfield Township, Upper Darby and Media Borough each run their own office with their own forms. We pull the permit for your address and close out the inspection. You do not have to chase it.

Algae, not dirt and not damage. It is common across the mid-Atlantic and it shows worst on north-facing slopes that stay damp. It does not take much life off the roof, so we will tell you plainly when it is cosmetic. On a replacement, algae-resistant shingles with copper granules slow it down.
