Project Overview
A complete residential shingle roof replacement executed in Sunrise, FL 33322. Engineered to satisfy Broward County high-wind resistance requirements, this project upgraded an old asphalt roof to a dimensional shingle assembly designed to resist tropical force winds, heavy downpours, and intense South Florida heat.
The Challenge

Where the roof started

The original shingle system on this home was showing signs of advanced weathering, including severe granule loss and brittle shingle edges, creating potential leak paths during heavy summer rainstorm events.
The previous roof assembly had lost its protective coating, exposing the structural fiberglass mat to UV degradation
Stringent Broward County building codes mandated a complete re-nailing of the plywood deck to satisfy high-wind uplift standards
Proper attic ventilation needed to be integrated to prevent trapped attic heat from shortening the lifespan of the new shingles

Scope Of Work

What we did

Perform a clean tear-off of all old shingle layers down to the bare wooden roof deck
Inspect the structural deck, replace compromised plywood sheets, and re-nail to meet Florida Building Code standards
Lay down a continuous layer of tear-resistant synthetic underlayment with self-adhering ice and water shield in valleys
Custom-fabricate and install perimeter metal drip edges, starter shingle courses, and pipe flashing boots
Install Florida-certified architectural shingles using a reinforced 6-nail high-wind attachment pattern

Project FAQ

Questions about this project

Are architectural shingles approved for high-wind areas in Broward County?

Yes. When installed with Florida Building Code-approved starter courses, proper underlayment, and a 6-nail fastening schedule, dimensional shingles carry wind warranties up to 130 mph.

Upgrading to modern shingles combined with balanced ridge ventilation lowers attic temperatures, reducing the workload on your home's air conditioning system during hot summer months.

A secondary waterproof underlayment acts as a crucial back-up shield, ensuring that even if severe wind lifts a shingle, wind-driven rain cannot penetrate into the home's interior deck.
