Pennsauken’s twins and ranchers nearly all have a porch, breezeway or rear addition with a shallow roof. That section is where trouble starts.
Pennsauken runs from the Delaware riverfront at Delair and Fish House out to the quieter streets near Merchantville Park. The older sections went up in the 1920s and 30s. The rest filled in through the 1950s and 60s with ranchers and Cape Cods. Nearly all of it has a front porch, a rear addition or a breezeway sitting at a slope too shallow for shingles.
Those shallow sections are what we look at first. Done right they get a membrane or standing-seam metal and a proper termination where the low slope meets the main roof. The rest gets architectural asphalt. Roofing permits in Pennsauken are issued by the Pennsauken Township construction office under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code.

Asphalt shingles laid on a porch or breezeway slope below their rated pitch let wind-driven water back up under the courses, and no amount of sealant fixes that.
Low-slope sections need a membrane or metal panel, not shingles below rated pitch.

Older twins and ranchers here usually need flashing replaced rather than resealed.

Porch roofs here are usually too shallow for the shingles that were put on them. Driving rain and snowmelt work back under the courses and show up on the ceiling inside. The fix is changing the system on that section, typically to a membrane or standing-seam panel.
The Pennsauken Township construction office, under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code. Merchantville is a separate borough with its own office, so if your mail reads Merchantville we check the block and lot first. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection either way.
Looking fine from the ground is not the same as being sound. We would rather inspect and tell you to wait than sell you a roof you do not need. What usually changes the answer is flashing condition and what the deck looks like at the eaves.
Sometimes, and we will say so when that is the honest answer. On older Pennsauken chimneys the counterflashing is mortared in and the step flashing has rusted through, so a real repair means cutting in new metal. If the surrounding shingles are near the end, doing both at once costs less.
