An old crossroads name on one of Cherry Hill’s busiest corners. Roof replacement on houses that have been re-roofed at least once already.
Ellisburg is one of the oldest place names in Cherry Hill Township, taken from the crossroads where Kings Highway meets Route 70. The surrounding blocks are largely first-wave township subdivision from the late 1940s into the 1960s, with older houses closer to the corner. Seventy years is long enough for almost every one of these roofs to have been replaced at least once.
A second or third roof is a different job from a first one. We want to know how many layers are up there, whether the old flashing was reused, and what the previous crew did at the valleys. Then we tear off to deck and start clean. Cherry Hill Township’s construction office issues the permit and inspects the finished roof.

Reused flashing, short valley metal, nail-chewed sheathing and an extra layer of shingle are the four things we find most often on a second re-roof.
Old step and chimney flashing left in place under new shingle is a common shortcut.
A second layer adds weight, hides decking problems and has to come off.
Decades of fasteners leave sheathing that no longer holds a nail properly.

Same office, same crews, a short drive away.
We do not recommend it and we do not do it as a matter of course. A layover hides the decking, adds weight, shortens the new shingle’s life in the heat and makes proper flashing impossible. Tear-off costs more on the invoice and less over the life of the roof.
Yes. Ellisburg is part of Cherry Hill Township, so the construction permit and the final inspection come from the township’s construction office under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code. We submit the application, pull the permit before work starts, and meet the inspector at the end.
We open a small area at the estimate where it is safe to do so, and we sound the deck during tear-off. Soft plywood, delaminated panels and boards that no longer hold a fastener get replaced. We tell you the per-sheet cost up front so a surprise is a number, not an argument.
Hail in this area is usually small, and small hail mostly knocks granules loose rather than punching through. It still shortens a roof’s remaining life, and it can crack aged shingle that was already brittle. After a heavy storm it is worth a look, particularly at the exposed slopes and the metal.
