A small Route 73 corner of Winslow Township. Roof replacement built for wet snow sitting still and nor’easters pushing rain uphill.
Tansboro is a small unincorporated community where Route 73 runs through the Pinelands side of Winslow Township. It is a corner rather than a town, a handful of streets and scattered houses, with no local government of its own. What it does have is weather. Wet snow settles on these roofs and stays for days, and nor’easters come up the coast and push rain sideways across the slopes.
Both of those get designed for rather than hoped about. Headlaps and underlayment carry the load when rain is moving uphill, membrane at the eaves handles the meltwater that refreezes there, and the enhanced fastener pattern goes on as standard. Tansboro addresses are permitted and inspected by the Winslow Township construction office under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code.

A roof in this part of the county has to handle wet snow sitting on it for days and then a nor’easter driving rain up under the courses.
Wet snow lingers on the lower courses, refreezes overnight and backs water up.
Nor’easter rain travels uphill, so headlaps and underlayment carry the real load.
Six nails rather than four is inexpensive insurance on an exposed roof.

Same office, same crews, a short drive away.
From the ground with a roof rake, and only the first few feet above the gutter if ice is forming. Never from a ladder in winter, and never with anything that scrapes the shingle. If ice at the eave is a yearly event, the durable fix is membrane under the lower courses and better attic ventilation, not clearing snow every storm.
Because wind-driven rain moves up the slope instead of down it, getting past headlaps and flashing that handle ordinary rain fine. It usually points at a short headlap, thin step flashing at a wall, or an old vent boot. The fix is in the detailing, which is why we rebuild flashing rather than reusing it.
Winslow Township does, under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code. Tansboro is an unincorporated community inside the township, with no separate hall of its own, and Camden County has no role in roofing permits. We file with the township construction office and see the final inspection through.
Almost always, on a house built to code for this region. Problems come from something else: a sagging ridge, a poorly framed addition, or an area where the deck has rotted and lost strength. We look at the framing from the attic during an estimate, and if something needs an engineer we say so rather than shingling over it.
