Pennsauken Township at the river’s edge, beside the rail bridge and yard. Roof replacement that starts with the edges and the ridge.
Delair is the northwestern corner of Pennsauken Township, where the rail bridge crosses the Delaware and the yard spreads out behind it. The housing is older and worker-built, close-set singles and twins on a tight grid, and there is nothing between it and the open water. Wind off the river arrives without a windbreak, and it does not test the middle of a roof first.
It works the edges, so that is where we spend. Drip edge and rake metal fastened into sound wood, ridge cap installed to the enhanced pattern rather than the quick one, and new boots and flashing throughout instead of reused. Delair addresses are permitted and inspected by the Pennsauken Township construction office under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code.

Wind off the open river hits these roofs without a windbreak, and it works the edges and the cap long before it touches the field.
Drip edge and rake metal fastened properly is what keeps wind from starting.
Cap shingles are the first thing a river gust takes off a roof.
Rail and highway dust settles into the granules and holds moisture there.

Same office, same crews, a short drive away.
Not always. Cap shingles are the most exposed part of a roof and they can fail while the field is still sound, particularly if they were fastened short. We check the nail line and the condition of the shingle either side, and if the field has real life left, re-capping properly is the right call and we will say so.
Pennsauken Township, through its construction office, under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code. Delair is a community within the township rather than a borough of its own, and Camden County does not permit roofing. We file the application, arrange the final inspection and hand you the closed permit for your records.
It changes the fastening and the edge detail more than the material. Open exposure means we install to the enhanced nailing pattern, seal the starter course, and use proper drip and rake metal rather than relying on shingle overhang. Those choices cost little and they are what decides whether a roof stays on in a nor’easter.
Only at the party wall. The seam where the two roofs meet has to be flashed so each side works independently, and if the earlier job cut that short, water gets in regardless of whose shingle is newer. We rebuild that detail from our side and show you what we found before closing it up.
