A hilltop settlement in Springfield Township and the highest ground in the county. Nothing shades these roofs, and it shows slope by slope.
Arneys Mount is a hilltop settlement in Springfield Township and the highest point in Burlington County. The Friends meeting house of 1775 still stands at the top of it. There are only a handful of houses, mostly older frame, sitting above the surrounding farmland with nothing at all shading them from the south or the west. The view is the point, and it is also the problem a roof has to deal with.
Full sun and open sky wear a roof unevenly. South and west slopes lose granules and dry out years ahead of the north side, which stays damp and streaks instead. We assess slope by slope and, where it makes sense, replace the whole roof so the whole roof ages together. Permits go to the Springfield Township construction office under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code.

On an exposed hilltop the south and west faces take years more direct sun than the north side, and they reach the end of their life well ahead of it.
Each face assessed on its own, because they do not age together.
Bare mat on sun-facing slopes, checked against the shaded side for comparison.
Algae on the shaded face handled with resistant shingle, not just washing.

On an exposed site like this, yes. The slope facing south or west takes far more ultraviolet and far more heat cycling, so it loses granules and dries out first, while the shaded slope often looks better and quietly grows algae instead. Both facts matter when we work out what to recommend.
We can, and occasionally it is the right call on a large roof with one badly worn face. The drawbacks are a visible color difference and two slopes on different clocks from then on. On most houses this size, replacing everything at once is simpler and not much more expensive.
Springfield Township. Arneys Mount is a settlement within the township rather than a municipality, so the Springfield Township construction office reviews the application and inspects the finished work under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code. We file it and meet the inspector, which keeps the paperwork off your desk.
A hardy algae that feeds on the limestone filler in the shingle mat. It needs damp and shade, which a north slope gives it. Scrubbing or pressure washing strips granules along with the stain, so the durable answer is shingle with copper-bearing granules on the next roof.
