A Souderton-area farm township split between two watersheds, where village crossroads and 1990s development share the same ridge.
Franconia drains two ways: to the East Branch Perkiomen on one side and the West Branch Neshaminy on the other. Route 113 crosses it as Harleysville Pike, Allentown Road runs north and south, and the turnpike clips the western end. The villages of Franconia, Earlington, Morwood and Reliance are old crossroads settlements. Between them are farms and developments built since 1990.
Two roofing jobs, really. Farmhouses need deck inspection and an honest conversation about slate or cedar that was covered over years ago. Newer homes need the details checked where a fast build cut time. Either way the roofing permit is issued by Franconia Township under the PA Uniform Construction Code, and we file it for you.

Open ground here gives wind a clean run at ridges and rakes, while newer houses more often fail at valleys and flashing than at the shingle itself.
Edges lift first where wind crosses open ground with nothing to break it.
Older houses sometimes carry shingle laid over slate, which changes the plan.
Newer builds leak at valleys and sidewalls long before shingles wear out.

Franconia Township itself, under the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code. Roofing permits in Pennsylvania are municipal, never county, so Montgomery County has no part in it. If your mail reads Harleysville or Souderton, that does not change jurisdiction. The parcel does, and we check it before filing.
Sometimes, and sometimes it should not. We look at what sits under the current covering, what the framing was built to carry, and how much original slate is salvageable. Slate is heavy and long-lived. A synthetic or a heavy architectural asphalt is the honest alternative when the structure will not carry stone.
Ridges and rake edges take the highest pressure on a roof, and on open ground there is nothing upwind to break the flow. Ridge caps and the first courses along a rake lift first, especially if they were hand-sealed in cold weather. Proper fastening and a real starter strip at the edges is the fix.
At that age it is nearly always a detail rather than the shingle: a valley cut tight, a sidewall with flashing set short, or a boot that has split. Those are repairs, not replacements. An inspection finds which one it is, and we tell you plainly if a repair will hold.
