Above Pottstown along Route 100, between Manatawny Creek and the Berks line. Old farmhouses and newer large-lot homes on the same road.
Upper Pottsgrove is a small township on Pottstown’s northern edge, drained by Sproegels Run and the Manatawny Creek and crossed north to south by Route 100. Its named localities are Cedar Grove, Halfway House and Little Oley, which runs over into Berks County. Housing is a mix: stone and frame farmhouses on remaining acreage, postwar homes closer to the borough line, and subdivision building from the last few decades.
Homeowners here are often surprised that a roof needs a permit at all, and more surprised that Pottstown and Montgomery County have nothing to do with theirs. Roof replacement in this township is permitted and inspected by Upper Pottsgrove Township under the PA Uniform Construction Code, and we file it.

Houses set on former farm ground have long uninterrupted slopes and little shelter, so wind at the rakes and driving rain at sidewalls do most of the damage.
Fastening and edge metal checked across the wide planes these houses have.
Chimneys, dormers and porch tie-ins on older stone and frame houses.
Barns, garages and sheds quoted in metal or asphalt as it suits them.
The township issues your roof permit; Pottstown and the county do not.
Same office, same crews, a short drive away.
Upper Pottsgrove Township. Mailing addresses follow post office routes, not municipal lines, and a Pottstown address does not put you under the borough’s jurisdiction. The township issues and inspects the permit under the PA Uniform Construction Code. We confirm it from your parcel before filing.
Often yes. Standing seam and ribbed metal handle long low-pitch runs well, shed snow, and last a long time on outbuildings where appearance matters less. On the house itself it is a bigger decision on cost and noise. We will quote metal and asphalt side by side so it is a real comparison.
Less than people fear structurally, more than they think at the eaves. The framing on these houses is usually generous. The problem is meltwater refreezing at wide overhangs and backing up under the shingles, which ice-and-water underlayment and open valleys are meant to handle.
The metal and the penetrations. Shingles typically outlast the pipe boots, the step flashing and the sealant at vents, and that is where most fifteen-year leaks start. A short inspection catches it cheaply. There is no reason to replace a sound roof because of a failed boot.
