A small township on the Schuylkill beside Pottstown, with modest houses, added-on rear sections and plenty of low slope.
West Pottsgrove is a compact township on the Schuylkill west of Pottstown, holding Stowe and Upper Glasgow. The housing is working stock: twins and small detached homes from the mill years, postwar ranches, and a lot of rear additions, enclosed porches and mudrooms added over the decades. Those additions are where a simple gable roof turns into four planes and three slopes.
Additions are the job here. We rebuild the tie-in where a shallow addition meets the main roof, put membrane where the slope is genuinely low, and flash the sidewalls with metal instead of sealant. West Pottsgrove Township issues the roofing permit and performs the inspection under the PA Uniform Construction Code.

Rear rooms, enclosed porches and mudrooms were tied into the original roof at whatever slope worked at the time, and those joints are the failure points.
The joint where a lower addition meets the main roof needs rebuilt flashing.
Rear rooms often sit under a slope too shallow for shingle to work.
Where roof meets siding, step flashing belongs under the wall covering, not on top.
West Pottsgrove Township issues and inspects roofing permits for Stowe and the rest of the township.
Same office, same crews, a short drive away.
Because that room was added, and the roof over it meets the original house at a joint. Water runs down the main roof and hits that transition at volume. Shingle alone does not handle it. The repair is proper metal flashing and, where the slope is low, a membrane instead of shingle.
The township does, under the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code. Montgomery County is not the permitting authority for roofing anywhere in Pennsylvania. We file with West Pottsgrove Township, arrange the inspection, and hand over the closed permit with your warranty registration at the end of the job.
No, not reliably. Below about a three-in-twelve pitch, water moves too slowly and wind drives it back under the laps. Those sections need EPDM or TPO membrane, or a standing-seam metal pan. Mixing systems on one house is normal and correct, and the estimate should say which goes where.
Lifted or creased shingles along the ridge and rakes, missing tabs, and exposed nail heads. Nor’easters and summer squalls come across the river here with little to slow them. If you see debris in the yard after a storm, it is worth a look up before the next rain finds the gap.
