Local Roofing In Frederick

Route 73 and the old farms

Frederick grew along the Great Road, now Route 73, and by the 1880s it had a post office, a general store, a creamery, a tannery and about thirteen houses. Upper Frederick Township split from Frederick Township in 1919 and still runs to farmland, woods and large-lot housing, with Obelisk to one side and Perkiomenville up along the Perkiomen Creek. Roofs out here stand in the open.
Open ground means wind, and long roof planes with nothing breaking the weather. We look at ridge and rake fastening first, then at the metal on the porches and additions a farmhouse roof collects over a century. The permit for a roof replacement is issued by Upper Frederick Township under the PA Uniform Construction Code.

Roofing In Frederick

Long roof planes over farmland catch everything the weather brings.

With no shelter upwind, a nor’easter pulls at the ridge and the rake edges, and a summer hail line can cross an entire slope in one pass.

Wind uplift

Ridge, hip and rake fastened for exposure rather than to the bare minimum.

Hail across the field

Summer storms bruise a whole slope at once, which we document slope by slope.

Common questions

Who issues roofing permits for a Frederick, PA address?

Who issues roofing permits for a Frederick, PA address?

Upper Frederick Township. Frederick is a village name and a postal address, not a municipality, and it should not be confused with Frederick Township, which was divided in 1919. The township’s code office permits and inspects the work under the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code, and we file on your behalf.

Not always. Losing cap or a few tabs at the ridge and rake usually points to light fastening in those specific courses rather than a worn-out field. We refasten and replace what came off, and if the rest of the roof is sound we will say so rather than push a replacement.

A roof that age has generally had one replacement already or is well overdue for its first. What we check is the state of the flashing at chimney and wall, whether the attic has real intake ventilation, and how the deck feels underfoot. That tells us repair or replace.

Roofing on outbuildings is common out here and we handle it, usually in metal rather than shingle because the pitches and spans suit it. Barn roofs fail at seams, fasteners and edges. We would rather fix those than sell you a whole new roof that is not needed.
